Con un tama\u00f1o de apenas 3.5 a 4.5 mil\u00edmetros, estos diminutos insectos lucen un cuerpo negro o bronce metalizado que brilla con la luz del sol mientras revolotean entre prados floridos. Sus larvas llevan vidas muy variadas: algunas excavan peque\u00f1os t\u00faneles dentro de los tallos de tr\u00e9bol, mientras que otras ayudan a descomponer hojas secas. Diferenciar las 27 especies de este grupo no es tarea f\u00e1cil; los cient\u00edficos a menudo necesitan un microscopio para observar el patr\u00f3n de sus diminutas cerdas. Me top\u00e9 con esta peque\u00f1a mosca en un prado soleado cerca de mi casa en J\u00e4rf\u00e4lla, Suecia.
