They are even better known for their sap-sucking nymphs, which surround themselves with protective foam, giving rise to the name \u201cspittlebugs\u201d. <em>Sphenorhina rubra<\/em> is a Neotropical froghopper easily recognized by its striking colour pattern, with a mostly black body marked by vivid red or orange stripes. I came across this colourful spittlebug during my first visit to Tena, a city on the edge of the Amazon rainforest. The city has a vast and remarkable park set between rivers, so large that it can only be visited with a guide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Adult spittlebugs (family:
