Easily recognized by their long, white-banded antennae, females tap leaves to sense the faint vibrations and scents of host larvae hiding in the foliage. Once a target is found, the female uses a long, needle-like ovipositor to inject an egg deep inside the host. The hatching larva feeds internally on non-essential fluids and fat, intentionally keeping the host alive as a fresh food supply. Remarkably, the larva lacks a rear digestive opening, preventing waste from poisoning its host from within. While larvae eat meat, adult wasps feed on flower nectar, plant sap, and honeydew to fuel their rapid flight. I came across several of these restless wasps constantly darting through the vegetation.
