Como muchos de sus parientes, estos insectos presentan una prominente estructura sobre el t\u00f3rax en forma de casco llamada pronoto. Sus tonos verdosos o amarillentos les permiten mimetizarse a la perfecci\u00f3n entre las hojas y los tallos. Para proteger a su descendencia, las hembras suelen cuidar de sus puestas y ninfas. Al alimentarse de la savia de las plantas, los diablitos <em>Amastris<\/em> excretan un l\u00edquido azucarado conocido como melaza. Este manjar atrae a las hormigas, quienes &#8220;pastorean&#8221; a estos insectos y los defienden agresivamente de depredadores como ara\u00f1as y mantis a cambio de alimento. Tom\u00e9 esta foto durante una de mis primeras salidas fotogr\u00e1ficas con mi primer equipo fotogr\u00e1fico.
