A diferencia de las mariposas, estos chinches no forman capullos; sus cr\u00edas nacen como peque\u00f1as versiones sin alas de los adultos y simplemente van cambiando de piel a medida que crecen, compartiendo la misma dieta vegetal que sus padres. Los adultos son verdaderos expertos del disfraz seg\u00fan la \u00e9poca del a\u00f1o. Durante la primavera y el verano, lucen un traje verde brillante para camuflarse entre las hojas frescas. Al acercarse el oto\u00f1o, su cuerpo cambia gradualmente a un tono bronce o marr\u00f3n para coincidir con las hojas secas antes de hibernar. Si su camuflaje falla y un depredador se acerca demasiado, el chinche recurre a su \u00faltima defensa: libera un espray qu\u00edmico de olor muy desagradable para ahuyentar la amenaza al instante. Me encuentro con frecuencia con estos chinches durante mis paseos veraniegos por Polonia y Suecia, y he logrado tomar bonitas fotograf\u00edas de las diferentes etapas de desarrollo de este maestro
