These medium-to-large insects feed primarily on plant fluids, are remarkably strong, noisy fliers, and are famous for the distinct, leaf-like expansions on their hind legs. This particular specimen was a true giant, measuring well over two centimeters in length and boasting a beautifully intricate coloration. While walking through the city park in Puyo, Ecuador, I spotted it resting against the deep shadows of the forest canopy and managed to snap some stunning high-contrast photos.
