To blend in, they don&#8217;t just look like sticks; they also extend their front legs straight forward, freeze, and sway rhythmically to mimic a twig blowing in the breeze. I barely noticed this small stick insect in an Okinawa park because it looked identical to a tiny branch. Only when it finally shifted did I recognize that familiar shape! These insects are strictly nocturnal, spending the day completely motionless to evade sharp-eyed predators.
