Con apenas 5 mil\u00edmetros de longitud, este peque\u00f1o habitante del bosque es f\u00e1cil de reconocer gracias a su t\u00f3rax de un llamativo color marr\u00f3n anaranjado que contrasta hermosamente con su abdomen marr\u00f3n oscuro. Si quieren encontrarlas, tienen que seguir el rastro de los hongos: sus larvas se alimentan exclusivamente de setas silvestres y materia org\u00e1nica en descomposici\u00f3n, lo que significa que los adultos pasan la vida rondando los rincones sombr\u00edos y h\u00famedos del bosque donde crecen los hongos. Para identificarlas, los entom\u00f3logos buscan el sello distintivo de su familia: una hilera \u00fanica de diminutas y r\u00edgidas espinas que recorre el borde delantero de sus alas. Pero los machos guardan una herramienta oculta a\u00fan m\u00e1s extra\u00f1a: un &#8220;gancho&#8221; min\u00fasculo en sus patas delanteras que utilizan para sujetarse firmemente a la hembra durante el apareamiento.
