Este insecto es un aut\u00e9ntico maestro de la resiliencia ambiental, adaptado espec\u00edficamente para prosperar en charcas temporales y humedales salobres. Para sobrevivir en h\u00e1bitats que se secan, sus larvas construyen estuches port\u00e1tiles de curvatura \u00fanica utilizando peque\u00f1as piedras o fragmentos de plantas dispuestos con precisi\u00f3n, lo que les proporciona una coraza f\u00edsica y un camuflaje impecable. Con una resistencia fisiol\u00f3gica asombrosa, son capaces de regular sus niveles internos de sal para tolerar aguas salobres. Los adultos emergen en dos oleadas anuales separadas por una &#8220;diapausa estival&#8221;, una pausa estrat\u00e9gica en su desarrollo para capear las condiciones clim\u00e1ticas m\u00e1s duras. En el fondo del agua, las larvas cumplen una funci\u00f3n vital como &#8220;trituradoras&#8221;, descomponiendo la materia org\u00e1nica vegetal. Me top\u00e9 con esta fascinante criatura en un camping junto a un r\u00edo en Finlandia. Al principio, estaba convencido de que se trataba de una polilla, ya que hab\u00eda visto innumerables mariposas nocturnas de aspecto y vuelo similar durante mi largo viaje en bicicleta por la costa del B\u00e1ltico.
