Fiel a las costumbres cl\u00e1sicas de su g\u00e9nero, esta mosca depredadora pasa los d\u00edas posada boca abajo en los troncos soleados y postes de madera, esperando pacientemente en esta postura vertical para emboscar a los insectos que pasan. Con unas patas excepcionalmente largas y delgadas, dibuja una silueta notablemente espigada contra la corteza. Los sexos muestran un contraste visual dram\u00e1tico: los machos poseen enormes ojos compuestos que se tocan entre s\u00ed (hol\u00f3pticos), mientras que las hembras lucen ojos ampliamente separados (dic\u00f3pticos) en un rostro mucho m\u00e1s ancho. A diferencia de algunos de sus parientes que se alimentan de sangre, los adultos de esta especie se nutren estrictamente de n\u00e9ctar o insectos m\u00e1s peque\u00f1os, mientras que sus larvas subterr\u00e1neas cazan otros invertebrados en el suelo h\u00famedo. Me top\u00e9 con esta impresionante hembra en un camping junto a un r\u00edo en Finlandia, justo cuando pon\u00eda fin a mi largo viaje en bicicleta por la costa del
