Older larvae build and carry a tiny protective &#8220;case&#8221; fashioned from dried flower parts, moving about like snails in their shells before dropping to the soil to overwinter inside sealed silk chambers. Unlike foliage-eating caterpillars, they target the developing seeds inside red clover flower heads. A single larva can destroy two to three seeds per day, causing up to 95% crop loss in heavy infestations. Because the larvae feed safely tucked inside individual florets and their custom armor, standard chemical sprays are virtually ineffective. I met this stunning moth\u2014initially mistaking it for a metallic beetle\u2014in the summer of 2026 at a small park near my home in Barkarby,
