Sus alas anteriores var\u00edan del ocre p\u00e1lido al marr\u00f3n caf\u00e9 y destacan por una ancha franja central oscura con el borde interior m\u00e1s claro. Aunque no es estrictamente diurna, se asusta f\u00e1cilmente y echa a volar si caminas entre la vegetaci\u00f3n baja durante el d\u00eda. En el siglo XVIII, los entom\u00f3logos brit\u00e1nicos le dieron un curioso apodo debido a lo com\u00fan que era en la hierba alta, ya que ca\u00eda constantemente en sus redes por accidente mientras intentaban atrapar especies m\u00e1s raras. Sus larvas se alimentan exclusivamente de leguminosas de porte bajo, en especial especies de arveja (Vicia) y tr\u00e9bol (Trifolium). Aunque he coincidido con esta polilla en prados de diversos pa\u00edses europeos, no fue hasta un paseo cerca de Akalla, Suecia, cuando finalmente logr\u00e9
