This study examined how pediatricians in the West Bank, Palestine, feel about giving COVID‑19 vaccines to children younger than 12. Out of 323 pediatricians who were surveyed, only about one quarter supported vaccinating young children. Most of those who were hesitant said they were worried about vaccine safety, how well the vaccine works, and the lack of information about long‑term effects. The study suggested that providing clearer information and improving communication could help increase doctors’ confidence in vaccinating children.
The survey was carried out during the COVID‑19 pandemic by Yousef, a fellow in the MediPIET training programme working in Palestine. Although scientific understanding of COVID‑19 vaccination for children has since changed and many countries no longer recommend it, the findings point to a broader concern: growing distrust toward vaccines among healthcare workers. This is worrying because it could negatively affect routine childhood vaccination programmes in the future.
