Increase of scabies infestations, Norway, 2006 to 2018. Euro Surveill. 2019 Jun;24(23):190020.

The article discusses a significant rise in scabies cases in Norway between 2006 and 2018. The study found that consultations for scabies and sales of scabies treatments nearly tripled during this period, particularly affecting young adults aged 15-29 years. The increase was confirmed through data from the Norwegian Syndromic Surveillance System and sales data for scabies treatments. We recommended raising awareness among clinicians to ensure timely diagnosis and treatment of scabies.

The investigation was coordinated by Ettore, a fellow of the training programme EUPHEM based in Norway. It was an interesting experience, as we used many different data sources and I learned a lot about these fascinating arachnids.
