This article discusses a measles outbreak in Armenia that occurred between February and July 2023. The outbreak was primarily driven by the spread of the virus in paediatric healthcare facilities, affecting many unvaccinated children and healthcare workers. Despite high national vaccination coverage, gaps in immunization at the community level allowed the virus to spread. The investigation highlighted the importance of vaccinating healthcare workers against measles to protect the most vulnerable children.
Karo, a fellow of the training programme MediPIET based in Armenia was involved in the investigation. Since he did not have experience with investigating outbreaks and scientific writing, I assisted him in all the steps of the investigation, along with the Armenian colleagues. I also helped him write the article and submit to the journal. This is why I received the honour of being the last (senior) author of this very important manuscript.
