Entre 2005 y 2017, realic\u00e9 una serie de investigaciones para identificar la mejor manera de medir el riesgo de ETG y, en particular, c\u00f3mo mejorar la vigilancia. Dentro de este proyecto, evalu\u00e9 el sistema de vigilancia existente, implement\u00e9 estudios serol\u00f3gicos en humanos y animales dom\u00e9sticos, recolect\u00e9 muestras representativas de garrapatas para medir la prevalencia del virus de la ETG en ellas y evalu\u00e9 el manejo cl\u00ednico de los pacientes y los programas de vacunaci\u00f3n. Tambi\u00e9n llev\u00e9 a cabo un estudio nacional de casos y controles sobre los factores de riesgo de la ETG. Finalmente, perfeccion\u00e9 un potente modelo estad\u00edstico para predecir el riesgo de ETG a partir de un conjunto de caracter\u00edsticas paisaj\u00edsticas, meteorol\u00f3gicas y sociodemogr\u00e1ficas medidas con la menor resoluci\u00f3n posible. Probablemente fue mi contribuci\u00f3n m\u00e1s impactante, dando como resultado dos tesis, una docena de publicaciones revisadas por pares y alrededor de 30 presentaciones en congresos revisados por pares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u00bfPor qu\u00e9 importa?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Estas investigaciones pueden contribuir a una mejor vigilancia de las zonas de riesgo de encefalitis transmitida por garrapatas. Con una vigilancia eficaz, los municipios podr\u00edan ofrecer la vacunaci\u00f3n a las personas en riesgo y los m\u00e9dicos de cabecera a los turistas que visiten esas zonas.
