Using data from the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2013\u20132014, the researchers analysed urinary concentrations of these chemicals in adults. Three different statistical models were applied to assess the relationship between chemical exposure and both general and abdominal obesity. The study found that several substances, including bisphenol\u202fS (BPS), mono(carboxyoctyl) phthalate (MCOP), and bisphenol\u202fA (BPA), were significantly associated with increased obesity risk. The authors conclude that health effects of chemical exposure should be evaluated as combined effects of mixtures of substances rather than single substances, and that using multiple statistical methods can provide a more comprehensive understanding of these complex relationships. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This article resulted from a collaboration between the Toxicology Department of the Norwegian Institute and a research group from Nanjing University in China. Although I have no knowledge of toxicology, I was invited to contribute as an epidemiologist. As part of this collaboration, we prepared a joint grant application, which unfortunately was not funded. This peer\u2011reviewed publication ultimately became the main outcome of our collaboration, comparing advanced statistical models to assess the effects of multiple exposures on a health outcome.
