The four‑banded longhorn beetle (Leptura quadrifasciata) belongs to one my favorite groups of insects—the longhorns (family: Cerambycidae). These striking beetles thrive in damp, deciduous woodlands, where the adults spend their days feeding on flower pollen while their larvae develop deep inside the decaying wood of fallen tree trunks. I crossed paths with this particular individual during a trek through the forest in Järfälla, Sweden. Initially, getting a clean shot proved tricky; its slender, striped body blended with the dark, textured tree bark. To overcome this, I gently moved it onto a nearby rock, where the smooth surface offered a much sharper contrast. The beetle turned out to be an incredibly cooperative subject. Whether it was momentarily stunned by my boldness or simply assessing its new surroundings, it remained still, granting me just enough time to capture a few nice frames. I met him again in the garden of a country house in Poland, where he was diving into flower beds.
