The seven-spot ladybird (Coccinella septempunctata) is a carnivorous beetle native to Europe, most of Asia, and North Africa. Although it is just one of approximately 5,000 ladybird species worldwide, it has successfully adapted to a vast array of habitats. Its principal diet consists of aphids, which are essential for its development and reproduction. When aphids are scarce, the seven-spot ladybird can survive on alternative food sources like pollen, nectar, thrips, and whiteflies, though it cannot reproduce during those times. It is one of the most recognizable beetles in the world, and I have fondly remembered these ladybirds being around me since childhood. However, photographing such small, oval, and constantly moving subjects is no easy feat! I have tried on many occasions, and I am thrilled to share my nicest photos with you on this blog. 🙂
