Triggella is a relatively recently discovered genus of Neotropical jumping spiders (family Salticidae) native to Central and South America. These rare, elusive spiders are highly distinctive; the males feature a reddish-brown carapace, a solid dark mask surrounding their eyes, and a yellowish abdomen marked by a dark longitudinal band. Like all jumping spiders, members of this genus are entirely docile and harmless to humans. They will only bite if severely threatened, and their mild venom causes nothing more than minor, temporary skin irritation. I crossed paths with this tiny, cute spider during my very first excursion into the Amazon rainforest, making it one of the absolute first test subjects for my brand-new photography gear.
