First described in 1928, Sibovia taeniatifrons is a vibrant species of sharpshooter leafhopper (family: Cicadellidae) native to the lush tropical regions of Ecuador and Peru. Renowned for their eye-catching colors, these tiny sap-feeders are a true favorite among nature photographers. Highly active and often gathering in small groups, they move busily from stem to stem in forest clearings and meadows. They are as elusive as they are photogenic: a leafhopper that has sat motionless for several minutes can vanish in the blink of an eye with a powerful, lightning-fast spring. Throughout my travels, these colorful little creatures have brought so much life to the tropical trails, pausing just long enough between leaps to let me capture their stunning details.
