Saurita is a genus of Neotropical tiger moths (family Erebidae, subfamily Arctiinae) native to Central and South America. Renowned for their unusual daytime activity, these striking moths are master mimics. Many species feature slender bodies, narrow wings, and transparent patches that—combined with iridescent red and black markings—give them a convincing, wasp-like appearance designed to deter predators. I had the pleasure of photographing this striking moth deep within the lush canopy of the “La Perla” Protected Rainforest, situated along Ecuador’s coastal region.
